The Wellington girl’s P7 had a successful afternoon competing in the Glasgow Academy Hockey Tournament. We were drawn against strong opposition in our pool. In the first game Wellington beat Hutchesons’ Grammar 1-0 and then drew 1-1 against Glasgow High School. The 3rd game was against Jordanhill School. Despite having most of the possession and creating some excellent scoring opportunities the score was 0-0.
This meant that the girls reached the Quarter Finals where we were drawn against George Watsons. The game was evenly contested in normal time and at the final whistle the score was 0-0. Running penalties were next and 3 girls from each team were selected. At the end of running penalties the score was 2-2 with both schools having had a shot saved. This meant sudden death. George Watsons took the lead which meant that Wellington had to score. Determined to reach the semi-finals Georgia Young hit a hard low shot but the keeper saved. Georgia regathered the ball and went in for a 2nd attack. Again, the keeper managed to save this and agonisingly we were out of the tournament.
Huge congratulations to the girls who represented the school and played so well.
