The word ‘test’ can seem daunting, but we would like to reassure you that entrance testing for Wellington School has your child’s best interests at heart. The entrance test not only enables to us assess progress and attainment, it also performs a pastoral function and will allow us to understand the needs of your child so that they can get the most out of school.
At Wellington we only test pupils going into either P7 or S1, a key transitional stage in their school life. In 2019, the examinations are scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th of January from 9am-12pm. Parents should accompany their child for registration purposes but are not expected to stay.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you have parking onsite?
The school car park is located in front of Craigweil House (the building at the end of the cul-de-sac on Craigweil Road).
Where will the test be?
The testing will take place in our new building, Craigweil Lodge (Craigweil Road); signs will clearly mark the way from the car park. Craigweil Lodge is bright and colourful and the atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and welcoming. Parents are not expected to wait on site but you are encouraged to attend for registration.
Do you offer past papers for practice?
The entrance test performs a pastoral function and will allow us to understand the needs of your child so that we can give them the most tailored experience possible. The questions should be accessible to all children of the appropriate age.
How long is the test?
The total testing time is 3 hours. For all pupils, each component (English and Maths) is 90 minutes long with a comfort break halfway through. For children progressing to S1, the Maths section includes a 30 minute arithmetic test where the use of a calculator is not allowed. For the rest of the Maths test (1 hour) children will be able to use a calculator. If you have any questions about the test itself, please get in touch.
What happens after the test?
If we feel that your child will flourish at Wellington, the Headmaster will write to you by mid-February with an offer of a place.
I have more questions…
