Every week, our P5 and P6 HUG (Helping Unite Generations) group visit Mathieson House, a care home in Ayr. The children play bingo and dominoes with the residents and now that the weather is slightly better, they have also ventured outdoors to the putting green with their new friends.

Mrs Bathgate says that ‘firm friendships have been formed and the residents accepted with sheer joy the children’s invitation to attend the school’s Easter service and the Junior School show, Aladdin, next term.’

These visits not only benefit the children, but they are important for the residents as well. Learning from one another and talking about their lives and interests gives both age groups a different perspective on life.
