Speech Day is a special occasion at Wellington. It is a day for celebrating our individual and shared achievements, reflecting on a successful year and marvelling at how far we have come and the opportunities we have experienced. For staff, both teaching and non-teaching, it is the culmination of hard-work and dedication, the result of inspirational lessons and a commitment to doing their utmost for the benefit of the school. However, it is mainly a day for our pupils, without whom, Mr Johnson says ‘we would have little to celebrate. Any teacher knows what a privilege it is to work with young people whose optimism, energy and capacity for invention are a constant inspiration.’
As Speech Day concludes for another year, we would like to wish the entire Wellington community a restful, restorative and well-deserved summer break. To our leavers, we wish you every success for the next step in your journey and remember, you can now register as members of our Former Pupil Association! Too soon?!
As a final farewell to Session 2017/18, we are sharing this fantastic footage of our unique Sports Day House Marching in all its glory! A Wellington tradition that dates back more decades that we would care to mention, ‘The Marching’ has always been performed to Carl Teike’s ‘Old Comrades’. If you have ever attended a Wellington Sports Day, you will know that camaraderie is something we do particularly well! Our dear friend Reverend Aitken was the judge this year and despite his red shirt, we can confirm that he is a secret member of Montgomery House! In fact, he declared Nightingale (yellow) the winners!
