Primary 7 Transition at Wellington School
Primary 7 at Wellington School is a truly distinctive experience. It provides a supportive, inspiring and seamless transition into Senior School, laying the foundations for future success while giving pupils an unforgettable final year of primary education. Whether a child is coming from Wellington Junior School or joining us from elsewhere, our highly dedicated and caring staff ensure the move is smooth, nurturing and confidence-building.
Primary 7 Curriculum
Pupils benefit from the best of both worlds: the stability of a class teacher and the excitement of being taught by Senior School specialists in Art, Computing, French, Geography, History, Music, PE and Science. This gentle introduction to Senior School staff, routines and facilities fosters independence, maturity and a sense of readiness for S1 and beyond.
A Unique Year of Growth, Confidence and Seamless Transition
Just as importantly, Primary 7 is a year rich in personal growth, community and shared experience. Pupils enjoy their own dedicated building, Craigweil Lodge, and a private astroturf playground within the Senior School campus, giving them the perfect balance between nurture and increasing independence. Tailored pastoral care ensures every child feels known, supported and valued.
It is also a year filled with memorable opportunities that help pupils discover their strengths, passions and emerging leadership. Recent key highlights include:
- Taking to the stage in their much-loved P7 Panto Aladdin, developing confidence, teamwork and resilience.
- Excelling in communication, shining in the Ayrshire Music Festival’s Speech & Drama section and during our own ‘Talking Week’, where pupils explored topics that mattered to them with clarity and enthusiasm.
- Showing entrepreneurial flair in the ‘Tenner Challenge’, turning big ideas into successful ventures through creativity, planning and teamwork.
- Immersing themselves in history during an engaging visit to the Bannockburn Visitor Centre, where hands-on learning brought Scotland’s past vividly to life.
- Achieving national recognition, with success in the DigiInventors Challenge and the Scottish Mathematical Challenge, celebrating innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Developing independence and resilience during outdoor adventures which helped build teamwork, courage and lifelong memories.
- Travelling to Germany for a ‘Magical Christmas’ experience with our twin school in Dortmund, strengthening cultural understanding and international friendships.
P7 pupils at Wellington really do get the best of both worlds. They have the comfort of building a strong relationship with their class teacher like in the junior school, but they also get the benefit of moving around the school to enjoy lessons with senior school teachers. In addition, P7 is based in our newest development, Craigweil Lodge, and they have access to good recreational facilities and a fantastic range of opportunities. When older pupils look back on their school days, they often single out P7 as a real highlight.
