Wellington has four houses: Churchill, Curie, Montgomery and Nightingale named so after four influential figures in British society in the 20th century.
What do you love most about the subject you teach?
I teach Chemistry and Science but when I first arrived, I taught Biology as well. I have always loved science and languages and was very interested in biology at school in California. When I moved to San Antonio,Texas , to attend Trinity University I pursued a degree in Biology with a minor in French. I also took numerous chemistry courses that have allowed me to teach that subject here too.
I particularly like teaching science to younger pupils because I can give them a good grounding in all three disciplines – biology, chemistry and physics.
Did you have a different career before you became a teacher?
For a decade, I was a land use planner and project manager for at an environmental consulting firm near Seattle, Washington and in Sacramento, California. I learned all sorts of useful skills that I still use in teaching, such as working with others, managing projects and meeting deadlines.
What do you like about your job, Margaret?
I like challenges and pupils provide you with a constant stream of them! I also like to learn new things – there are always new developments in science after all. Making science exciting is something I aim to do every day as careers in science are incredibly rewarding (and necessary!).
What makes Wellington special in your opinion, Margaret?
Wellington is an incredibly friendly and busy place. Our pupils work very hard to achieve good results and we offer assistance in almost every subject helping them to reach their full potential. There are a wide variety of activities in which pupils are encouraged to take part. As House Coordinator, I relish organising the house activities and on a personal level, Wellington has allowed me use my French! I have been to Slovenia, Spain, Germany and our partner school in France.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
