Wellington School’s 6th Year pupils are delighted to announce that this year’s charity is Ayrshire Hospice, a local charity with which many of us will have a connection. The work of the Hospice is truly inspiring and we are looking forward to channelling all of our fundraising efforts this year into helping ‘make today matter’ for the many people using the Hospice’s services.
Ayrshire Hospice offers physical, emotional, social and spiritual care to people in Ayrshire & Arran living with a life-limiting, final stage illness where there is no cure – cancer, heart failure and lung disease to name only three. Essentially, the Hospice improves the quality of each day for people who have a limited time to live and their families so every penny raised by Wellington will assist the charity in providing the outstanding quality care and services for which they are renowned.
Head Boy, Stephen McLarty and Head Girl, Kirstie Howat said ‘we couldn’t be more proud to support this amazing charity which is right on our doorstep here in Ayr. Several pupils and members of staff have a connection to the Hospice and are all too aware of the wonderful work they do. The care they provide to all patients and the support they offer families in what can be sad and testing times is truly remarkable. We are determined to raise a significant sum to help continue this excellent standard of service.’
Wellington is well known for its ‘6th Year Charity’, named so because pupils in their final school year choose a cause to support and then drive all fundraising activity for the following year.
Remember that Miss Duffy, Mr Ness and Mr Johnson took on the Helvellyn Triathlon in the name of the school charity. They are, therefore, absolutely delighted that the monies raised so far (well over £400!) will go to Ayrshire Hospice! In June 2018, Wellington donated a staggering £43,642.72 to Alzheimer Scotland and in 2017, we were delighted to present Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity with £25,222.56. The Wellington community is a generous one and we would like to thank parents, pupils and the wider community for always supporting our chosen cause.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
