Transition to Primary 1
The move from Nursery to Primary 1 is a significant milestone in your child’s educational journey. At Wellington, we understand the importance of this transition and are committed to making the experience as smooth and reassuring as possible for both children and parents.
The programme offers a comprehensive transition from a child’s first day in nursery through to Primary 1. Children joining Wellington from other nurseries are seamlessly integrated, giving both pupils and parents a chance to familiarise themselves with the Junior School in a welcoming environment. As a result, children enter Primary 1 confident and comfortable, with familiar surroundings and a friendly, familiar teacher, making the adjustment to a longer school day smooth and stress-free.
What to Expect
Our Transition Programme is designed to support each child through a carefully planned and personalised approach. Key elements of the programme include:
- Parent Information Session – Hosted by Mr Cox, Mrs McRae, and the Primary 1 teacher, this session offers an overview of the transition process and what to expect in the year ahead.
- Classroom Visit – Children spend a morning in their future Primary 1 classroom, getting to know their new teacher and exploring their new learning environment.
- Parent Workshop – Led by the Primary 1 teacher, this session provides practical information and addresses common questions or concerns parents may have about the transition.
- Primary 5 Buddy System – Each Primary 1 pupil is paired with a Primary 5 ‘buddy’ who will guide them around the Junior School and help them settle in.
Wellington’s Transition Programme is the very best I have seen in my many years in education. It is truly outstanding and I am very proud of our achievements thus far. In saying that, we seek to improve every year in order to enhance each child’s experience.
