Wellington: Where The Music Never Stops

This Sunday was a long but rewarding day for Wellington’s musicians. Examiners from Trinity College London examined a number of our senior pupils who were taking graded exams in singing and percussion. Mr Haggerty was delighted that two of our peripatetic instrumental teachers showed their support by accompanying their pupils. Discussions with the examiners revealed that they were impressed with our facilities and the standard of our pupils with every candidate passing their exam – our congratulations to you all!
The Madrigal Group presented an excellent selection of songs for a charity lunch at the Brig O Doon Hotel in aid of Whiteley’s Retreat. Mrs Docherty prepared the group and accompanied them beautifully, meanwhile, Mr Haggerty acted as ‘the roadie’ and watched the girls give an impressive performance. Photos: courtesy of Alister Firth.
In the evening, Mr Haggerty accompanied Katie Carmichael and Sophie Craig in a performance at the Ayrshire Hospice ‘Light Up A Life’ concert in Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall. Our Director of Music said that ‘both girls were outstanding and the highlight of the concert. Both Katie and Sophie are extremely experienced and professional young singers who are a credit to our school. The rapturous applause from the audience went on and on!’
It would appear that Wellington was represented admirably yesterday with all of our musicians showing excellence in a variety of settings. Giving up their Sunday to perform shows their commitment to their ongoing studies, the communities in which we live and charity too.
