Burns Season Continues…

Burns Season is an excellent opportunity for song and recitation – no one knows this better than Mr Haggerty and the Music Department. The Ayrshire Bard, born a mere mile or two from the school, is a favourite among Wellington pupils who have entertained people in their hundreds in the days leading up to and after the 25th of January.

Mr Haggerty offered Mr Johnson a long update of all the concerts and recitals Wellington pupils had taken part in by the end of January – read it here below:

‘I accompanied three of our 6th year pupils, Katie Carmichael, Sophie Craig and Isla Novak at the Royal Troon Burns Supper on the evening of Saturday, the 26th.  The girls were outstanding and a credit to Wellington School.

There were two main spots for our musicians that each consisted of two songs, a violin solo and a duet.  In addition to this, Isla and I played background music for guests arriving and also during two short breaks.  The pupils enjoyed being invited guests at the dinner and the Royal Troon Club were most welcoming and hospitable.   The audience thoroughly enjoyed our performance and I have received a few emails already to say it was the highlight of the evening.  The club will be donating money to the school charity.

I am very proud of these pupils and grateful for their enthusiasm in giving up a Saturday evening for an event that finished after midnight.  A late night but very rewarding and a successful promotion event for our school.

In other Burns events, Scott Grassom played bagpipes for the Creggan Bahn supper on Friday and within the last week Sophie Craig has performed at a Burns events in New York, London and Ayr before performing at the Royal Troon dinner.

These events are very important for the musicians to gain valuable experience in the music industry and the pupils are a credit for promoting the good name of Wellington School.'[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
