Wellington has a proud history as a boarding school for girls, but in 1995 the boarding houses were closed and the school transitioned into a co-educational day school for pupils aged 3-18. Since then, the school has grown and today we welcome 400 pupils who travel from as far afield as Largs and Stranraer.

We are delighted, however, to once again be able to invite applications from international students who can arrange accommodation and guardianship separately and attend Wellington as day pupils.

Wellington School is registered with the Home Office as a Child Student Visa Sponsor.

We are now accepting applications for entry in August 2026, and the initial application form can be downloaded by clicking on this link:

Applications should be submitted by Friday 27 March for entry in August 2026.

FAQs

Does Wellington have boarding accommodation?

No, Wellington is not a boarding school and has no accommodation. We can accept pupils, however, who can make suitable arrangements themselves to live within travelling distance of the school.

Can Wellington provide me with a CAS to put on my Child Student Visa application?

Yes, Wellington School is registered as a Child Student Visa Sponsor by the Home Office and we can supply a CAS to any applicant who can meet the requirements of both the Home Office and our own admissions process.

Do I have to be able to speak English?

Yes, any international pupil wishing to attend Wellington must speak English at a level that will enable them to access the curriculum. Some additional Language support can be provided, but we do not offer the full-time English Language courses that would be necessary for a pupil who does not currently have a reasonable level of English.

How will my English be assessed?

As part of the admissions process, you will be interviewed online by one or more senior members of staff. This will enable us to evaluate your level of English. We may also require an appropriate level of IELTS qualification, particularly for students applying to enrol for certificate courses (Year 10 upwards).

Do I have to make a payment to apply?

Yes, there is a £200 non-refundable application fee. Applicants must also pay £5000 that will be refunded on successful completion of their course or if their visa application is unsuccessful or if the admissions process is terminated by either party before a CAS has been issued.

Can I come to Wellington at any stage?

No, but full details of the range of courses offered can be found on the application form. We can consider applications from students wishing to join the school at any stage from Year 6 to Year 10.

Do I have to stay with my parents or in a family home to attend Wellington School?

No, but you do require accommodation that meets the standards and requirements of the school and UK Immigration. You must have a legally appointed guardian, and we will collect these details as part of your admissions process. Your guardian must be a UK Citizen or possess Indefinite Leave to Remain status.
