We are delighted to announce the Wellington School Scholarship Programme, which aims to attract and reward talented and committed pupils who will benefit from the first-class education and the wide range of academic opportunities available at this school.

A small number of Scholarships are available for pupils entering Primary 7, S1, S3 and S5 and these will be awarded in recognition of all-round academic excellence.

We are now accepting applications for entry in August 2026, and the application form can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

FAQs

Scholarship applications for a child or young person who is not currently a pupil at Wellington School must also go through our standard admissions procedures.  Full details of these can be found by clicking here.

How many Scholarships will be awarded?

This will depend on the quantity and the quality of the applications that we receive.  The decision to award a Scholarship is entirely at the discretion of Wellington School.

How will Scholarship applicants be assessed?

All Scholarship candidates for entry in P7, S1 or S3 will be required to attend a selection event at Wellington School, where they will be required to complete standardised tests appropriate to their age.  In addition, they will complete a writing task and a mathematical assessment involving problem solving. Full details of the selection event will be provided to all applicants.

In addition, we will request a copy of your most recent school report.

Will academic grades be considered?

Applicants for an S5 Scholarship will be assessed based on their results at National 5 (or equivalent level) and an interview with a senior member of staff.

Can we apply for a Scholarship based on talent and commitment in Art or Music?

Yes, but all applicants will be asked to participate in the standard selection procedures.  If you wish your child also to be assessed in Art or Music, please tick the relevant box on the applications form.

Can current pupils at Wellington apply?

Yes, current pupils are welcome to apply.

What are the benefits of a Wellington Scholarship?

In addition to the wide-ranging benefits of being a pupil at Wellington School, those awarded a Scholarship will be offered a fee discount of up to 20%.

If we apply for a Scholarship, can we also apply for Bursary support?

Yes, the Bursary scheme aims to widen access to the school, and it is open to all applicants.  Full details of the scheme and how to apply can be found here. Note that Bursary and Scholarship applications will be assessed separately.

How is a Scholarship different from a Bursary?

A Scholarship is awarded purely on the basis of an assessment of academic ability and attainment, whilst a Bursary award is based on a detailed means-tested assessment of the family’s financial position. The fee reduction associated with a Scholarship will be no greater than 20%, whilst the school is required as a charity to offer a range of Bursary awards that can provide for up to 100% of the fees.

Do we need to complete any other paperwork?

Scholarship applications for a child or young person who is not currently a pupil at Wellington School must also go through our standard admissions procedures.  Full details of these can be found by clicking here.
